Asus ROG Phone II will be hard to dethrone
Befoe the end of the month we expected two brand new gaming smartphones to launch, with similar specs. The Asus ROG Phone II’s launch was set for today while the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 will arrive just before the end of July. Now that the full spec sheet of the Asus ROG Phone II is public, all we can wish Xiaomi is good luck, as it will be really hard to dethrone Asus’s handset that focuses on gaming. We already knew to expect a smartphone with some high-end features but the ROG Phone II seems to be even more impressive than we initially imagined.
A lot of information regarding the handset already surfaced but now it is confirmed that the Asus ROG Phone II is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus and it includes no less than 12GB of RAM and it offers up to 512GB internal storage. Asus also equipped its gaming smartphone with a special cooling system, which includes a vapor chamber and vents that are meant to prevent throttling of the 855 Plus’ peak speeds. The company added a 6,000mAh battery to the equation so that the smartphone can last quite a bit on a single charge.
The 6.59-inch OLED screen displays vivid images and the up to 120Hz refresh rate ensure terrific user experience. Naturally, with the refresh rate set to the highest possible option, the battery will not last as much as when it is set to 60Hz. The design is quite unique too, with the eye-catching back of the device. Speaking of the back cover, it seems like the Chinese version of the device will come with a glossy back cover while the rest of the world will get the matte finish model. Both of them look stunning, so it doesn’t really matter where you purchase it from.
The Asus ROG Phone II would have lost a lot of its magic if the company did not offer the gaming accessories that awed everyone with the first-generation Rog Phone. Asus ROG Phone II users will be able to add an improved dual-screen Twin-View dock to their handsets, the clip-on AeroActive Cooler fan, or the brand new gamepad attachment, the Kunai, which consists of two split controllers that can be attached to the side of the phone or slid into a separate joypad-shaped grip. As for the cameras, the Asus ROG Phone II has two of them on the back, a 48MP sensor and a 13MP sensor, and a 24MP camera on the front, for selfies and video calls.
The company did not announce official pricing yet, however, sources say that the Asus ROG Phone II will cost approximately the same amount of money as its predecessor did. This means we are looking at an $899 starting price at least. Together with all the accessories, even the base model will definitely cost more than $1,000. Then again, at this moment, this is the best gaming phone on the market.
