Feelreal – Feel everything in VR
VR gear has come a long way ever since we saw the first gadgets of this type. The user experience is more and more amazing with every new generation of VR headsets. Even so, there are some limitations to what VR headsets can make us feel. At least they were until recently when Feelreal invented its Multisensory VR mask. Yes, this is not a VR glass or headset, it’s a mask that can make users feel much more than they were used to be able until now. Feelreal doesn’t only enable users to visualize different sceneries, it also allows them to feel what is going on. To be more exact, the VR mask adds smell, hot and cold wind, water mist, vibration and punches to the VR experience we once knew.
The device did not go into mass production yet. The developers launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in order to be able to further develop and produce the gadget. It’s nos surprise that there still are a few days to go until the campaign ends and the Feelreal VR mask is already fully funded. Actually, it managed to raise 664% of the sum the company needed for officially launching the new device.
The Feelreal Multisensory VR mask is compatible with most of the VR headsets available right now. It works perfectly with Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive, Sony Playstation VR, and many more. Attaching the mask to the VR headsets is really easy due to its magnetic mount. The mask is ready to use out of the box, without users needing to make a series of complicated settings to it. Simply choose the experience you want to have and attach the mask to your VR headset.
What this Feelreal mask adds to the equation is everything the VR headsets don’t. The company offers more than 255 aromas users can smell during games, movies, and the mask even serves as an aromatherapy gadget if users want it to. Besides smells, the Feelreal VR mask also makes users feel wind, mist, or rain. Of course, you won’t be soaking wet after using the gadget but you will get the full experience of the VR content you watch. Vibrations and punches are also among the things the Feelreal VR mas allows users to feel.
While there already are a number of supported titles, like Skyrim VR, Death Horizon, Guns’n’Stories Bulletproof, The Last Day Defense VR, and certain Youtube videos with Feelreal tracks attached, the truly amazing thing about this gadget is that it allows users to create their own experiences. They can do this with the free Feelreal Video Editor. With this tool, users can easily add smells and sensory tracks to any movie, video or 360-degree content. As the developers describe it, it’s almost like adding subtitles to the content, only the experience will be mindblowing.
Those who choose to back the project with $249 or more in the next couple of days can get their Feelreal VR mask as soon as August. This month, the serial production of the gadget will begin and the developers are planning to deliver the first units before the end of summer. The startup it contains a Feelreal Multisensory VR mask, a Feelreal Dreams Aroma Set with 9 aromas, and a bonus Patchouli aroma capsule.
