Oppo smartphone with under-display selfie camera launching next week
While the resolution of smartphone cameras keeps getting more and more amazing with each generation, in the selfie camera section it seems that their position is the one manufacturers are currently focusing on. Last year, almost every smartphone came with a selfie camera notch. This year, the notches shrank or even disappeared and now the under-display selfie cameras are the main attraction. Oppo could be one of the first smartphone manufacturers to deliver a handset with such a sensor. The company already showed off the technology earlier this month, and we could get the actual device before the end of the month.
Oppo just confirmed an event for 26 June in Shanghai, at the MWC expo. This is highly likely the date when the smartphone manufacturer will finally reveal its new handset with under-display selfie camera in all its glory. Everyone knows the company has the technology, and how it works, even so, it will probably be a really interesting thing to see. Under-display selfie cameras could easily become widespread in the next season, as Xiaomi and Samsung also confirmed that they are working on devices with similar features. After this, it’s likely that other manufacturers will turn their attention toward this technology too.

The invite to the 26 June event doesn’t mention the under-display selfie camera per se, however, the image on the poster hints toward it, so it’s safe to assume that Oppo will show off a new handset with such a sensor. When the device will become available for purchase is uncertain, it could take several more weeks before the smartphone will hit the shelves. We’ve seen other smartphones launch too and have their release date pushed back after all. There is only a week until the Oppo event so we won’t have to wonder too much, as we will get all our answers on June 26.
