The Black Shark 2 Pro not as impressive as the Rog Phone 2 but a lot more affordable
This seems to be the month of gaming smartphones. The Asus ROG Phone 2 recently launched and it is closely followed by the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro. While Xiaomi’s new smartphone is a good one, it doesn’t seem to be quite as impressive as the Asus ROG Phone 2. However, it has a more accessible price, so this will most likely count for something at the end of the day. Of course, the price difference means that customers would give up on certain features but there probably are gamers who could live without them.
Just like the Asus ROG Phone 2, the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. The Xiaomi handset includes 12GB of RAM, like the Asus gaming smartphone and is available in two storage variants, including 128GB or 256GB internal storage. The designs of the two handsets are quite different, and we have to admit that the Black Shark 2 Pro’s body is really eye-catching too. In this section, it really comes down to personal tastes and preferences.
The 6.39-inch AMOLED screen of the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro is a beautiful one, however, it doesn’t seem to have the 120Hz refresh rate that makes the ROG Phone 2 truly great. Xiaomi did not explicitly reveal the refresh rate of the new handset’s screen but it’s safe to assume that it is the same 60Hz one of the previous Black Shark model, otherwise, it would have been quite a slip not to mention it. Xiaomi would not have made such a marketing mistake, that is for sure.
Another thing that tips the scale towards the Asus gaming smartphone is the battery. While the ROG Phone 2 sports a massive, 6,000mAh energy pack, the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro only has a 4,000mAh battery which is definitely not able to ensure the same battery life. As this is a gaming smartphone, which already uses more energy than regular smartphones, this could really be a feature to consider when opting for one model or another.
The one thing that recommends the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro over the Asus ROG Phone 2 is its pricing. The Xiaomi gaming smartphone is even more affordable than the Asus ROG Phone 2 Tencent Gaming Edition, which is only available in China and it costs almost $300 less than the base model of the Asus ROG Phone 2.
