Xiaomi selfie camera that doesn’t need screen cut-outs in the works
The struggle to find new ways to place selfie cameras on smartphones is neverending. Even though smartphone manufacturers have come a long way from the thick bezels that gave a home to the front-facing cameras, they are still working on ways to have the cameras there without taking up any space on the screen. First, there was the bigger notch, then the punch-hole and waterdrop notches, but that didn’t seem enough after all. Some manufacturers added pop-up cameras to their handsets but that doesn’t impress too many users. Xiaomi just came up with a new design that places two selfie cameras in the upper corners of the handset. One of the patents doesn’t require giving up any screen space at all.
This is a brand new approach to the problem, and it might seem awkward, but it actually makes sense. First of all, many smartphone manufacturers now have dual selfie cameras. Placing the two sensors on opposite corners of the handset might result in capturing even nicer images. Also, the fact that the cameras don’t need to take up any space on the screen and disrupt the images in any way. Of course, the second design looks a little strange and Batman-like, but after all, a new design is not always a bad idea.
At this point, it is only a brand new patented design, so it’s not clear whether we will see it becoming a reality or if it will remain only a plan of Xiaomi. One of the best things is that according to rumors, this will be a feature of affordable phones too, not only flagship devices that come with rather high prices. We are eager to see when Xiaomi will equip its smartphones with the new selfie cameras and which models will be the first ones to sport the new design.
